About ASFM2023

We are honoured to announce Rwanda’s successful bid to host the 2023 edition of  the African Society of Forensic Medicine (ASFM) International Conference as announced during the 8th ASFM Congress in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 10th International Conference of the ASFM, as previous meetings, is a continent-wide meeting that will bring together an expected 300 forensic science practioners from across Africa and beyond to discuss issues pertaining to forensic science practice on the African continent.

Topics of discussion during the conference will be centered on:

-Management of the dead bodies.

-Identification of deceased migrants

-Disaster response and management

-Prevention of gender-based violence and crime scene management as well as harmonized evidence-based forensic science practice on the African Continent.

Theme of the conference

This conference, which will be hosted by Rwanda Forensic Laboratory (RFL) in collaboration with Africa Society of Forensic Medicine, is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 7th to 10th March 2023 under the theme “Harmonization of Evidence-Based Forensic Science Practice in Africa- A Holistic Approach Towards a Safer Continent”.

Sub Themes:

-Forensic Science practice in Africa : current state, challenges and opportunities for improvement.

-Forensic Investigation in Mass Fatality Incidents and Disaster Victim Identification.

 -Management of Sexual and Other Forms of Violence (Clinical Forensic Medicine).

-Tissue banking on the African Continent : current state, challenges and forward.
